So, um, last night- I took the girls, MY girls, you know the teenage ones; to see Sex and the City. I know, it’s rated R and totally kind of, inappropriate.
BUT, hear me out: As soon as the movie had come out on DVD, they would have watched it over at a friend’s house, behind my back. (Yes, you would have.) I do not harbor any illusions that my children are perfect. They are kind, loving and brilliant- however they are kids and they want what they can’t have; the forbidden, so to speak.
My rational is simple, if I am with them, I can buffer and explain. I can remind them that it’s a movie. That it’s not all real.
We had a marvelous time, seriously.
We went to the 9:45 pm showing, the theater was packed- sold out, in fact. We had oodles of popcorn, soda, and candy…We were girls. We giggled, laughed and blushed-together. I hid their eyes during the really slightly raunchy parts and they swatted my hand away with a smile and an “Awe MOM”.
I don't regret a thing, except NOT slapping the witch behind me that kept kicking the back of my chair. We spent time together, I would even call it quality time.

Sounds like a fun "girls night out!"
You are such a bad girl in such a good way! That's why we love ya!
Agh, I knew I should have come to your house this weekend with Dean out of town. Lord only knows when I'm going to get to go see it.
Just call me J-E-A-L-O-U-S!!!!!
Was is great?
Mr. Big is not real? Now that is a shame.
Can't wait to see it.
You're a great mom. Your kids will probably forget about the groundings, but this they will remember.
It's a guilty pleasure! I love it! We are planning a girls night to see it as well...bring on the jimmy choo's!
Hey chaulk it up to sex ed. With visuals.
I loved the movie (got to see it 5/29)!
I saw it last night. I bet there's was a lot to talk about with the girls- waiting for true love, being true to yourself, acting smart in love, all sorts of issues to discuss. Besides how goodlooking Smith is.
When I was 12 my Mom brought me to see Flash Dance at the theatre. She almost fainted during the sex scene but I think she had the same idea you did. I wanted to see it and she would rather see it with me than find out I saw it on cable a few months later. It was fun! I am glad you guys had fun too.
I can't wait to see this. You ALMOST make me wish my daughter were a teenager. ;)
I am so jealous! Everyone I know has seen the movie, and I haven't got out to see it yet. This Sunday I hope!
Glad you had a great time with your girls.
Eh. I see that as a no-big. (Of course I've never seen Sex and the City, but it certainly doesn't sound like Debbie Does Dallas or anything!)
Glad you had fun!
I wished the movie had less nudity because it had a really great story about friendships and taking care of one another and forgiveness....etc.
I would so buy the edited version.
:) The Maid
I took my teenager to see it last weekend. We spent two hours together laughing and crying....AND we talked about it the whole way home. Girls Rock!!
