August 31, 1980.
A momentous day, truly.
My 8th birthday, specifically.
It's the day that I got to be a super hero, a day that I had been dreaming of, and longing for.
The day I opened the best gift, ever.
That's right, Super Woman underoo's.
oh yeah, I got a swing set, too.
I wore my underoo's everywhere, under my school clothes, under my church clothes and as pajama's.
My mother literally had to rip them from my filth encrusted body to wash them.
I stood in front of the washer and dyer until they were done, naked.

Waiting with baited breath, (okay, I was holding my breath.)
With my underoo's on, I conquered all.
Neighborhood bullies, evil teachers and the poltergeist that lived under my bed, (serious, y'all.)
I was invincible, unstoppable and pretty silly looking.
Can someone please tell me why I thought I looked cool?
And the Princess Leia buns, yeah, super cool.
NOT!
Flashing back is painful, was I really that dorky?
I swear, I was the coolest chick on the block...
I guess it all goes back to the delusional thing.

I'm pretty sure my Wonder Woman underoos made me cool, too. And that was pretty hard to do, so they must have had super powers in 'em. LOL.
Oh, I love it! Thanks for the laugh.
Oh you were cute!!! I love the underoos. I think the Princess Leia buns really set the outfit off too. :)
Oh man those are awesome! I love how you say "oh yeah, I got a swing-set too."
I love them! I had a pair too! They made you feel like a super hero!
What? Wait a minute! You mean you are NOT a super hero?
Well. Who knew?
You look adorable and I'd love to buy my kids a pair. Do they still sell them? Heck, I'd like a pair too. Nothing like feeling all Wonder Womanish.
Thanks for playing along. You are awesome!
I loved Wonder Woman but I am a few years older than you so I just couldn't risk wearing the underoos to junior high!
HAHAHA! Dang I was too old for Super Woman underoos (I think) that or I was not cool enough.
I think they are cute. I was the same way with a fraggle rock t-shirt. I wore it everyday, even under something else. I never took it off.
Thanks for sharing!!!
Oh I so wanted those!! My mom wouldn't buy them for me! What a great picture!!
OMG! I had Underoos! But my hair was never long enough to make Princess Leia buns. :( You made my day! Thanks!
For your daily dose of vintage goodness & a bit of silliness, stop by Confessions of an Apron Queen, the home of Vintage Thingies Thursdays.
You were so cute! I think it is great that kids are willing to wear whatever and not worry about what others think. I encourage such behavior in my kids. (Perhaps that just makes me STILL a dork)! All that to say, No, I don't think you were dorky. :-)
Hey thanks for stopping by and laughing at my blog today with me. :)
Don't be embarrassed. I had those same underoos. It was a gift from my aunt. And WonderWoman rocks. Dude, I wish I could deflect tantrums with those handcuffs.
Oh my goodness, I had completely forgotten about Underoos! What a great flashback. And I love the photo. It was very unfair only to have one woman superhero back in the days! (And thanks for the comment about my kids... you're too sweet!)
OH MY! I had those same damn Under-Roos! BUT....mine were way cooler....I also had the wrist shields....HA!
I laughed with tears when I saw the photo!
Oh My GOSH!! You totally posted pictures of yourself on the internet in your underwear! LOL!
OK, the 8 year old girl in me covets those underoos. We were so poor when I was a kid that if it wasn't worn on the outside we didn't spend a lot of money on it. And Hand me downs were free (not handmedown underoos).
I think that Wonder Woman Underoos would have been out of our budget.
You look proud to be wearing the Wonder Woman Drawer!
Be blessed.
Jennifer
My brother had a set of Underoos, but I was not so lucky. I think his were Batman. Maybe Spiderman. Well, all I remember is that he had a pair. Which he ran around in with a towel for a cape. So I guess it must've been Batman. Or Superman. Oh hell, who knows.
you were the bomb, girl!
